Scott Frost Welcome Home Tailgate to benefit Wood River Vision 20/20 rescheduled

April 20, 2019 by Lindsay Buechler

WOOD RIVER — Wood River’s “Scott Frost: Welcome Home Tailgate” has been rescheduled for next Tuesday at Babel’s Barn.

The event was originally scheduled in March but was postponed due to severe weather conditions.

The event is a fundraiser for Wood River Vision 20/20 and Stick Creek Kids and will be the first public appearance for Frost in Wood River, where he graduated from high school and was a star athlete.

Frost is now in his second year as Nebraska’s head football coach.

Doors to the tailgate will open at 5:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 6:45 and Frost speaking at 7:30. Mohanna with Red Shoes will be performing when the doors open.

Barbecue and tailgate food including brisket, ribs, pulled pork, wings, cheesy potatoes and nachos will be provided by Stumpy’s BBQ, Just One More BBQ and MNO Hometown Market.

In addition to the speakers, there will be raffle and live auction items, including a Miletta Vista Winery package, a Scott Frost autographed football, #imomsohard tour tickets for four, a treehouse playset by Lakeshore Learning, Nebraska vs. Northern Illinois tickets for two, and a Husker football VIP experience vs. Indiana for two from First National Bank of Omaha.

More than a year ago, Wood River Vision 20/20 began exploring the child care demand and caregiver capacity, both now and looking into the future. Responses to a child care survey conducted in January 2018 showed 65 households would consider using child care in Wood River if it were available. Since then, funds have been raised to build a child care center there.

Since the launch of the capital campaign in November, the project has received gifts of $500,000 from the Grace & Donna Rae Koepp Foundation, $100,000 from Donna Moyer, as well as grants from the Community Block Development Grant ($350,000), S.N. & Gloria Wolbach Foundation ($15,000) and Cargill Inc. ($30,000).

The Thelen family has agreed to donate roughly .85 acre of land adjacent to the aquatic center on which to build the child care center. Altogether, the project has now raised more than 60 percent of the $1.965 million goal.

Due to NCAA regulations regarding recruiting-eligible demographics, this is a 21 and over event. Tables of eight are available for $800 or you can purchase individual tickets for $100 each.

Advance ticket purchase is required. Contact Sara Arnett at Heritage Bank Wood River or contact Lindsay (Dibbern) Buechler (308) 627-8478, Eric ‘Plug’ Nielsen at (308) 380-5448, Jodi Rauert at (308) 380-7475, Sherry Smith at (308) 379-5212 or Penny Volf at (308) 380-5981.
